It is the eighth time the company has been named to PIA’s Best Workplace list.

DISC, formerly known as Disc Graphics, and a supplier of specialty packaging for more than 40 years, has once earned the distinction as the “Best of the Best Workplaces in the Americas” in the 2010 competition created by Printing Industries of America (PIA). It is the third year in a row in which DISC has earned this top accolade and the eighth time the company has been named to PIA’s Best Workplace list. “We are extremely proud to receive this prestigious award once again,” says Margaret Krumholz, president of DISC. “It is an honor to be in the company of an elite group of leaders in the graphic arts industry for whom an excellent work environment is essential. At DISC, we have long recognized that our people are at the core of our values as a company. We consider their growth, development and well-being to be our highest priority.” The Printing Industries of America, the world’s largest graphic arts trade association, introduced its “Best Workplace in the Americas” program ten years ago. This competition was designed to honor printing and packaging companies that provide a superior work environment which balances the goals and needs of their employees with those of the organization. A panel of human resources professionals in the graphic arts industry evaluates applicants on the basis of eight criteria: Management Practices; Work Environment; Training and Development Opportunities; Financial Security; Workplace Health and Safety; Work-Life Balance; Recognition and Rewards; and Health and Wellness Programs. According to Diane Ferrante, director of human resources, “Our company culture has always been based on excellent management practices, open communication, and a commitment to our employees. This year, in addition to maintaining a strong focus on the criteria required by PIA, we raised the bar by strengthening our customized training and employee recognition programs. In spite of the challenging economic climate in the country, we also continue to offer our employees a superior benefits package.” That package includes a flexible spending program, company-paid short-term disability, and the company’s health insurance offering with low cost-sharing by employees. Michael Makin, president and CEO of PIA, adds that the “Best of the Best” winners routinely exhibit the highest commitment to success in many ways, but particularly through their employees. Congratulations to DISC for achieving this honor once again.”
